I recently started physiotherapy and my doctor said he would give my surgeon a thumbs up if I could balance on one foot on a trampoline and juggle a ball. I laughed, I was excited, I knew he wasn’t joking, but I also knew he couldn’t be serious.

Since then, I’ve been eager to use the trampoline. I had created the entire scenario in my thoughts. Imagine it as a large ring with nets all around it. But little did I realise that it was in a basement and hardly bigger than a sewer drain. I was surprised and said, “I had no idea it would be this small.”

That’s when I realise the importance of not building up fear in my head. I had anyway already trained my mind to not worry bout things I can’t control, but today particularly this incident taught me that our fears are only as big or small as we ‘like’ or think’ them to be.

Fear is good its importance it activates cortisol an important stress hormone that helps us say alert and activate, but excitement feels the same as fear so its a double edged sword.
