” I fooled myself”

It’s been nearly 2 months since I last posted on my blog. I have absolutely no excuses as to why I haven’t posted. But as always I have a quote to share with you about my experience,

The first principle is that you must not fool yourself and you are the easiest person to fool.

Richard P. Feynman

Every Wednesday, I would say Saturday is the day I would post and when the day finally arrived, I told myself I was tired, busy or had no idea‘s which leads us to my second point

“Inspiration”

When I think of inspiration these are the three things that pop into my mind:

#1 Madeleine L’Engle,

the award-winning writer and poet who produced more than 60 books during her career, in inspiration:

“Inspiration usually comes during work, rather than before it.”

#2 Elizabeth Gilbert

So I don’t sit around waiting to write until my genius decides to pay me a visit. If anything, I have come to believe that my genius spends a lot of time waiting around for me — waiting to see if I’m truly serious about this line of work.

Big Magic

Inspired by this, I too will do my work and let the genius come to me.

#3 Steven Pressfield

“This is the other secret that real artists know and wannabe writers don’t. When we sit down each day and do our work, power concentrates around us. The Muse takes note of our dedication. She approves. We have earned favor in her sight. When we sit down and work, we become like a magnetized rod that attracts iron filings. Ideas come. Insights accrete.”

― Steven Pressfield, The War of Art: Winning the Inner Creative Battle

The hardest thing is just getting yourself to sit down but I know it makes me content and I wish to be more serious about it

Perfectionism- the enemy of inspiration

Over the years of running this blog, I have learned that perfection comes in many different avatars. But now I know better so I will do better.

The best thing I have heard so far is

“Keep books or things that inspire you around yourself so that you can brush through the pages or listen to your favourite artist on the road to being inspired.”
